She added that ‘Whereas sheers and semi-sheers in recent years have been unfashionable, now you walk down the street and see women of all ages wearing them, with black being the hot favourite.’ With this in mind, we thought it would be a great idea to compile a selection of our favourite sheer tights, so all our lovely customers can find a look that’s perfect for them!

Bare Leg Look Tights – Which Style is Best for You?

40027-Shelina-12Forget diamonds, bare leg look tights are a girl’s real best friend. Like make-up for your legs, bare leg look hosiery will blend blemishes, vanquish veins and perk up pale, pasty pins.  And with an army of celebrity fans, headed up by Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge and Queen of Sheer Tights, it’s no wonder that sales of sheer tights have rocketed over the last year.

To help you through the maze of options, I have written a guide to getting the coveted bare leg look, so you can discover the right pair for you in a matter of minutes…

Best for: the ultimate bare leg look

My absolute favourite bare leg look products are made from bi-component (usually Sideria) yarns, which simply give an absolutely unbeatable look on the leg.  With a 7 denier appearance and 15 denier strength, the Charnos Simply Bare 7D Sideria Tights are a fabulous everyday option thanks to their budget busting price.  If you’re type of girl that loves a bargain, I’d also suggest taking a look at the Pretty Polly Naturals collection – a range of 7 styles in 5-8 denier, with a cooling finish that means legs feel as great as they look.  Too scared to debut your pasty pins?  Then I recommend the Oroblu Suntime Tights, as these ultra sheers come in a range of skintone shades designed to give your skin a subtle glow.  And last but definitely not least, the Falke Shelina Tights are my absolute must have – I wear them all summer long and no one can ever believe I’m wearing tights.  Not only do they give the best finish on your legs, the colours were relaunched last year with the help of actual dermatologists, so they now come in an array of shades that look even more natural on the leg.

Aristoc-UltimateBest for: Large choice of colours

The Falke Shelina products are by no means the only styles to come in a vast range of shades.  We pride ourselves on stocking bare leg look products for every skin tone including Afro-Caribbean, Mediterranean and the palest English Rose. To choose your perfect shade, it’s worth checking out our skin tone guide which shows bare leg styles on a range of skintones, so you can get the perfect match for you.

The Trasparenze Capri tights are a good place to start, as they come in 8 shades including a range of skintone matches.  Plus, in four sizes up to a size Maxi, they’ll fit up to a height of 7”1 and a weight of over 14 stone.  Also available in a plus size option are the utterly gorgeous Oroblu Geo 8 Tights, which feel silky smooth to the touch and glide onto the leg like a dream.   Available in a multitude of natural shades, the slight sheen finish gives a glowing, “just-moisturised” look to your skin – a little touch of luxury for your everyday routine.

Best for: everyday wear

If, like me, you seem to always be on the go, choosing a ladder resist product can be the perfect way to stop you spending unnecessary hard earned cash on emergency replacement tights.  Boasting a rather clever run resistant Lycra Fusion yarn, the Aristoc Ultimate 10D Matt Tights spell an end to ladders as any pesky snags that do appear just will not run – hooray for Aristoc! And back by popular demand, the Levante Resistenza Tights are a perennial favourite with our customers, thanks to their lighter than light feel on the leg, which belies their super strong run resist properties.

Best for: Occasions

Whether you have a special occasion coming up or are just the kind of woman that likes a little luxury in her life, then top of the range styles from Wolford are your perfect partner. I do love to pamper myself on special occasions by investing in something a little extra special, and the Wolford range is second to none when it comes to superior craftsmanship and timeless style. Treat yourself to a pair of the Wolford Individual 5 Tights, and the instant immaculate, powdery matte finish on your legs will garner admiring glances wherever you go.  I know though that 5 denier is sometimes not the most practical option for ladies on the go, which is why I would also stock up on the individual-5-tightsWolford Luxe 9 Tights, which are slightly thicker with a slight sheen finish for a subtly glowing skin.

Best for: showing off that pedicure

Toeless tights are the ideal solution for those of you that want flawless looking skin, but also want to show off that pedicure in peep toes or strappy sandals.  Featuring two to loops to keep them firmly in place, the Trasparenze Tropea Toeless Tights give a lovely natural look on the leg and are one of the oldest toeless options.  Other open toe options ideal for teaming with your summer footwear come from three of our favourite ranges: the Pretty Polly Naturals 8D Open Toe Tights, Falke Shelina Toeless Tights or the Charnos Simply Bare 7D No Toes Tights.

With so many options available, it’s no wonder that shopping for sheers can sometimes be confusing.  If you need any further help in choosing the perfect pair for you then you can contact our customer services team who will be able to expertly guide you through the process.

Until next week…

Celebrity Favourites: Get the Look!

Hankering after a little star style this season?  Get the look, with our pick of celebrity favourites…

K-Middy’s Bare Leg Look Tights: Kate Middleton and the Great Sheer Tights Debate has become one of the most iconic hosiery looks of the last few years – ironic, since as the name suggests, you can’t even see them.  There are loads of bare leg look styles on the market that offer wonderful coverage and a flawless skin tone – it’s rumored Kate wears Wolford sheers, but we love the Falke Shelina Tights, which offer the perfect shade for every skintone.

Zooey Deschanel’s Opaque Tights: There’s no denying that Zooey is the official face of opaque tights – from New Girl set to red carpet event, she never seems to take hers off!  For those of you without the A List budget, there are the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Opaque

Tights – just the right thickness to keep out the chill without being too thick for elegant eveningwear, they come in a range of shades so you can match them to your accessories.

Gwyneth’s Wool Tights:  On her much-discussed lifestyle website Goop, the Hollywood actress includes the wonderfully warm Wolford Merino Tights in her top picks for avoid the icy polar vortex weather in the US.  We’re not surprised – they’re wonderfully warm and super luxe to boot!

Little Mix’s Suspender Tights: The Little Mix lovelies are hard at work making a name for themselves across the pond, and are (in our opinion) at least partially responsible for the resurgence of suspender tights in the last few months.  Get the look by donning a pair with a twist, like the super cute Pamela Mann Bunny Ear Overknee Tights or the popular Pamela Mann Paris Skyline Suspender Tights.

Rochelle’s Shapewear: The Saturdays lovely has made no secret of her love of shapewear, and Spanx in particular.  And with a figure like hers, why wouldn’t you want to get the look?!  If you’re expecting, opt for the Spanx Power Mama Shaper, just like Rochelle – or if you just want a little helping hand to get Rochelle’s amazing hourglass figure, the Spanx Higher Power Brief is just the ticket.

Miranda Kerr’s Sheer Tights: Sales of sheer tights have soared in recent months, with classic black sheers making a name for themselves for the first time since the 90s.  Model Miranda has been spotted out and about in hers on several occasions – get the look with a 20 denier sheer like the Falke Pure Matt 20 Tights, which have a classic matte finish and luxurious feel for a look just like Miranda’s.

So here’s to you, Mrs. Middleton…

carole-middleton-patterned-tights-zoomFashion ?controversies? never cease to amaze us ? first of all it was Kate Middleton?s nude tights, now her mum Carole has been making waves with her own legwear.? Stepping out in Chelsea yesterday in a chic black ensemble, Mrs. Middleton teamed a double breasted black coat with lacey patterned tights.

The world immediately declared themselves shocked at her (and I quote) ?awful? choice of hosiery.? Erm? really?? Many have criticised her for dressing too young, because her hemline was ? shock horror ? about three inches above the knee.

What?s all the fuss about?? It?s not like she?s parading round in a minidress and fishnet stockings (though Madonna, 55, frequently does) ? it?s a pretty standard outfit in our opinion ? not quite Lady Gaga.? In fact here at MyTights HQ we think she looks sensational!? The look was elegant and pulled together, with nothing revealing or trashy ? in fact it was so conservative it might even have bordered on boring, were it not for the fabulous lace tights covering her (amazing!) legs.

Too old?? You?re never too old for fashion.? In fact she reminds us a little of national treasure Dame Helen Mirren, who at 68 doesn?t let her age stop he from wearing fabulous frocks and bikinis without a care ? and in our opinion Mrs.Middleton looks just as great as The Queen actress always does.? And if we look half as good as Carole does when we?re her age, we?ll be more than happy.? So we say bah humbug to all the haters ? we heart Carole?s style!

There are loads of fashion styles you can rock that are perfectly subtle enough to work with even a conservative dresser ? here are our top picks for getting Carole?s look?

Kate in Opaques: Savvy Styling or Fashion Faux Pas?

kate-middleton-opaques-under-dress-editOur beloved K-Middy can do no wrong, it seems, when it comes to fashion.? Through her carefully selected on-trend-yet-classic wardrobe, she has expertly toed the line between Royal protocol and her own (excellent) taste, leaving us with a serious case of wardrobe envy.

Much was made a couple of years ago about her devotion to the nude sheer, with some corners of the fashion world turning their noses up and decrying them as an 80s throwback we should have long since left behind.? But with sales of luxury sheer tights up 43% so far this year, we think some of those critics might now be eating their words.? But what do you make of the Duchess? latest fashion ?controversy??

At the screening of Sir David Attenborough?s Natural History Museam Alive 3D last Thursday, Kate wore a stunning, floor skimming Temperley dress, ticking all the necessary boxes (on trend lace/cool Brit designer/flattering but reserved cut).? But as she lifted her skirt to step up onto the pavement, she unwittingly also lifted the lid on her warming secret ? black opaque tights layered under her floor length gown.

Now, we?re all for trying where possible to combine fashion with comfort (except for when it comes to onesies), but we?re wondering if maybe a thicker sheer might have been the answer? Twenty or even thirty denier semi opaque tights in a skin tone shade would have provided the necessary protection from the chill but also would have remained incognito if a glimpse of ankle or shin were to be unveiled.? But then she?s the darling of the fashion world for a reason ? for all the rules and protocol, she can wear what she likes and 99% of fashionistas everywhere will happily follow suit.

We say, if you are going to go there, why not go the whole hog?? Layer your long party frocks over a pair of Pretty Polly?s Fleecy Tights and you?ll have a toasty warm layer no one will ever know about ? unless of course they happen to catch a glimpse, in which case you can just tell them you?re working The Kate.

Kate and her regal hosiery!

Is there anything that Kate Middleton looks bad in? We?ll save you the guess work and tell you that the answer is no. Unfortunately for us, the Duchess of Cambridge & yummy mummy of one always looks picture perfect, with her frugal but fabulous outfit choices winning over the nation.

Kate and her opaques!

Her appearance last week was no exception either, with the Princess paying a visit to children?s mental health charity Place2Be. Dressed in a smart navy skirt & jacket, the 31 year old accessorised her outfit with a pair of navy?sheer tights, completed with her signature slight sheen finish. Apart from a surprise gust of wind playing havoc with her hemline, Kate looked as chic as ever.

For a hosiery look to rival Kate?s, we recommend the Oroblu Sensuel 13 Tights. A firm favourite of founder Laura too, the lightweight sheers will glide onto legs, with an unbeatable silky smooth quality. With a sheer 13 denier appearance, the tights come in an array of shades, making sure there?s a pair for every occasion. Opt for the classic black, or try the softer music tone for an exact style match.

If you like the idea of sheers but fancy a little more coverage, then the Pure Shine 40 Tights are just the ticket. Equal parts luxurious and lovely, the 40 denier tights feature a glamorous sheen finish that will flatter any leg silhouette. Silky smooth to the touch, the tights also use moisture absorbent technology to leave legs refreshed no matter what.

And from chic sheers to chocolate opaques, it seems that Kate is not content with just one pair of tights. Showcasing yet another fabulous offering from her hosiery drawer, the Duchess was back in brown to join Prince William on a charity visit in London. Teaming her patterned shift dress with a pair of suede brown boots, Kate relied on her dark chocolate opaques to winter proof her hemline.? And it?s safe to say we?re fans! By shunning her everyday black opaques, Kate has proven that a little bit of colour goes along way.

To join the brown brigade, treat pins to the Falke Seidenglatt 70 Tights in ?Brenda?. Rich and luxurious, the 70 denier tights will fast become a wardrobe staple. Brilliant for delivering fashion & function in all in one, the thick opaques come with an elegant sheen, making them ideal for work & play.

For a purse friendly alternative, add the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights in ?Chocolate? to your hosiery drawers. At a price that will leave everyone smiling, the gorgeous coloured opaques come in all the colours of the rainbow (not just brown!), and feature super smart 3D elastane fibre for a fab fit & feel.

We just can?t wait to see what Kate does next!

Cover Up Sheers ? Make Up For Your Legs

neon-40-tightsHere at MyTights we?re surrounded by images of perfect pins every day.? But we know that loads of women don?t feel confident about their legs ? in fact, a study by monthly glossy Glamour Magazine found that 97% of women have at least one negative thought about their body EVERY DAY.? But instead of bemoaning your thunder thighs/cankles/blotchy skin/massive pores/obvious veins, why not learn to love what you?ve got ? and make the best of what you do have?

Some celebs use body foundation, but we find that it?s just not practical for any situation in which you have to actually wear clothes.? Sure, it evens out your skin tone, but it also stains your clothes, is tricky to apply ? and if it rains, forget it.? The solution?? We?ve discovered that skin perfecting hosiery is the way forward.? It?s quick, easy, inexpensive and instant ? what could be better?

The trick is to pick sheer tights that are a little thicker than your average sheer ? anything from 20 denier upwards will give a little light coverage that can cover scars, blemishes and uneven skintone.? Choose a shade as close as possible to your natural skintone and they?ll give you a flawless, natural look.

Tights Fit for your Princess

After several weeks (read: almost nine months) of anticipation, the Royal Baby has finally arrived, and so too has the media scrum surrounding it. Amid a sea of baby related souvenirs and office syndicates on the eventual name (just for the record, we?re all championing George at MyTights HQ), there?s no denying that this is the most exciting Windsor related news since a certain Prince got up to no good in Vegas. And given that Baby Cambridge is now next in line for the throne and very much in the public eye already, I can?t help but think about the endless outfits and impressive wardrobe that we?ll no doubt all coo over in the next few months. Of course, the chance of the newest arrival being dressed in tights is pretty nonexistent, but with stylish Kate as a mum, we can expect nothing less than fashion forward. Quickly earning herself the Queen of Sheers title, yummy mummy Kate Middleton has reminded us all just how elegant the bare leg look is, creating a surge in sheer sales across the nation.? But when it comes to hosiery fit for your little Princess, I?ve narrowed down the pick of the bunch and without that Buckingham Palace price tag, they?ll be able to join in on the fun too?Regal Hosiery!

With summer comes endless garden parties and wedding invitations, with a ?smart dress? requirement that may not sit so well with your little one, especially if they?ve nominated that well-worn fairy costume as their first choice of attire. To keep the peace and nip any wardrobe wars at the bud, settle on some elegant sheer tights from Country Kids. Perfect for adding a classic finishing touch to that sweet party dress, these will also keep her legs warm when the weather reverts back to its old, blustery self. Catering for ages 3-11, there are four fabulous shades (a classic black, sweet ivory and wedding friendly white) to pick from, even featuring a light tan colour to pay homage to Kate?s appreciation for a nude leg.

And from sheers to socks….appeasing to her inner girlie girl is a sure fire way to win you brownie points, and speaking from firsthand experience with my nieces, anything with frills is a huge advantage. From Country Kids, the super soft cotton-feel ankle socks are just the ticket for special days out or parties. With a dainty appearance created by a lace frill around the tops, the soft socks are ideal for adding plenty of pretty points to simple sundresses or pinafores, with three pastel shades to keep her and her wardrobe happy. What?s more, these have been reinforced for extra strength, keeping up with busy bees as they run circles around the house/park/garden and earning themselves an Official Mum?s Seal of Approval in the process.

Regal Hosiery!

Whilst there?s no denying that current sunshine situation is glorious (and who doesn?t love heat waves!?), switched on mums and dads will realise that the new school term is only a summer holiday away. With new uniforms comes a seasonal change, with wind and rain taking over from where the sunshine left off. Whilst Baby Cambridge won?t be settling into school just yet, there?s no reason why you can?t treat your little one?s hosiery drawer to some new additions. As colourful as they are cosy, the Cotton Rich Children?s Tights from Pex are the just what you?ve been searching for ? durable and soft tights that? look great but refuse to cost the earth. With an extensive range of 11 colours available (so there?s bound to be one that matches uniform requirements!) you may be a little spoilt for choice, but if you?re still searching for ?that? shade, be sure to look at the Warmer Cotton Children?s Tights from Country Kids too. Both products cater for tiny newborns too, so whilst tights may be off the agenda for Kate, we can only hope that mum-to-be Zara Phillips is listening!

Of course, everyone knows that with any Royal announcement comes a jubilant party, so what better way to celebrate the arrival of the future heir than with glitter ? and lots of it. Making sure that your little one steals the spotlight at every celebration, the Sparkly Footless Tights from Country Kids are fit for a Princess, with enough shimmer to take her into the approaching party season too. With no feet, negotiating footwear at the front door will be a thing of the past, as anything from open toed sandals to ballet pumps go. Phew!

And from everyone at MyTights HQ, congratulations Kate and William!
